Dartmouth Scholarships

Dartmouth Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need and without the demand for repayment. Depending on how we determine your eligibility, the sums range from $1,000 to over $70,000.

Dartmouth Endowed Scholarships

Many of the nearly 950 endowed scholarship endowments at Dartmouth will be matched with one or more of their students. These grants don’t signify new help; rather, they signal that existing aid will come from a particular endowed fund. There is an additional survey that all students getting aid fill out to help with these pairings, but there is no separate application needed for any given opportunity.

Any student may choose not to participate in this program if they so choose.

The majority of scholarship recipients are required to provide additional information on their time at Dartmouth and submit an annual letter of gratitude to their donors. Many even get the opportunity to meet their benefactors, which can result in some incredible networking possibilities. Having a relationship to one or more particular  Dartmouth students helps them see the very real impact that their generosity has on our financial aid program and our student body.

Dartmouth Outside Scholarships

If you have received outside scholarships (for example, based on academic, volunteer, or athletic accomplishment), this money will assist offset some of your own expenses. You may utilize these monies to offset or replace the employment and student loan components of your award, as permitted by Dartmouth.

Outside scholarships may also replace the amount if your grant contains a leave-term earnings forecast as part of your student contribution. If there is still a discrepancy between Dartmouth’s EFC and the EFC determined by the FAFSA for students qualified for federal assistance, outside aid may also be used to bring Dartmouth’s EFC down to the federal level.

Rarely, but on occasion, a student’s external resources can be so substantial that we are required to partially reduce a student’s scholarship award from Dartmouth in order to comply with federal and institutional awarding guidelines.

Veteran’s Benefits

Veteran’s benefits are included as a resource in the determination of eligibility for Dartmouth scholarship awards. Dartmouth College currently participates at 100% in the Yellow Ribbon Program which supplements GI Bill benefits.

Federal Grants

For U.S. citizens or permanent residents, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the only form required to apply for Federal Financial Aid.

The federal government provides Pell Grants to students who qualify on the basis of financial need as determined by their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) are awarded by the College to the most needy students. They vary in amount but do not exceed $4,000 a year.
