About The Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army may be traced back to Lieutenant John Hawley Glover’s Constabulary Force in 1863, which was primarily made up of Hausa slaves who had been liberated. The main purpose of the Constabulary Force’s establishment was to defend the Royal Niger Company and its property against the Ashanti Empire’s frequent military assaults. This police force gradually expanded in size and capability to meet the needs of the British Empire in its West African colonies, and it later served as the foundation for the Gold Coast and Hausa Constabularies, which, by 1879, had transformed into the Ghana Regiment and the Southern Nigeria Regiment, respectively.
