University of Uyo (UNIUYO)
The University of Uyo is located in the city center of Uyo, the capital of Nigeria’s second-largest oil-producing state, Akwa Ibom. Although there is a public international airport, Uyo is easily accessible by road.
The University of Cross River State used to be the name of the institution. The University of Uyo was established on October 1st, 1991, by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a Federal University. The former University of Cross River State, founded by Cross River State in 1983, left all of its facilities, faculty, students, and academic programs to the university.
It must be noted that what is now the University of Uyo underwent a number of transformations. As it developed, it went from being a Teacher’s College (TC) to an Advanced Teacher’s College (ATC), a College of Education (COE), which partnered with the University of Port Harcourt to offer degree programs, to a State University (UNICROSS), and finally to its current status in 1991.
The 1991–1992 academic year saw the start of academic activities. The Postgraduate School and the School of Continuing Education are among the 13 faculties at the University of Uyo. See more…
